Orange Scones and a crochet pillow

Hello Girlies,

It just seemed right to make some orange scones...so light and flavourful.

 had a little extra glaze, a little drop for each of them.

  

 The inspiration for the pillow comes from  Coco Rose Diaries scroll to the bottom third of the her post.

 The Hawaiian panel--still not finished--was inspired by Elizabeth Akana's quilting program on PBS--several years ago.

 

This crochet pillow is the first one I've made.  The form is a recycled pillow, very lumpy, but will do for this one.  Finding that I could have added a couple of rounds to the piece, would have made it less tight.  I shall make another one to prove to myself that 'practice makes perfect'--at least in pillow making.

Crochet blanket and some baking

Hey, girly girls,

I did make my 'famous' Sour Cream cake from this cookbook

 Although it is technically a chocolate cake, I always omit the cocoa. It is very moist and it has a large crumb. 
For example:  When using a boxed cake mix, the resulting cake has a fine crumb. But, this cake is moist, very moist. Which we like.

Ignore the top part of the picture, it is the description of the previous recipe.

I have used both lard and butter; but, by far, the better flavour comes from the butter.  It seems that the lard adds its own flavour which takes away from the sweetness and softness from the rest of the ingredients.

A few days ago I make an apple cake, here is a picture.  It was so yummy.

Also made Mr.PeasantHouse's favourite baked butter squash.  Very tender.  Always add water to the bottom of the pan and the rind/peel will peel off like paper. ta-dah!

 

Crochet

A friend is expecting a baby boy in March and I made this ripple blanket for her baby boy.
It is a mixture of Attic24's ripple which I love and have made several, and others.

So comforting, in this frozen-sheet of ice over the 2 inches of snow-weather.  Albeit, the sun is shining after several days of being cocooned in clouds.  We could have some sublimation of the ice crust. 
No use shoveling, giant ice picks would be necessary to get through the diamond hardness.  Ok, I exaggerate.  But, the car did not leave any visible tracks, and the mailman must have floated over, since there are no signs of footprints...

Some knitting and some crochet

Some days ago I finished knitting DH's aran cardigan.  Now, the buttons and we're done.

Then I made a pair of 'wristlets' because it has been so cold.  Today 9F

By the way, I had not shown you the EZ pie shawl...

 

 

It is very warm, all 100% wool of unknown provenance...a garage sale find.  I have a suspicion that it may have been a warp yarn.  It is rough.  I washed it and air dried it--on the carpet.  It got a little bit softer...since it's worn over clothes it is not bad.

Crochet Blanket for Little Cousin's Baby

Well, finally this Catherine's Wheel blanket is done.  Must send it soon, before the child goes to school.

I so enjoyed crocheting this blanket. The stitch is so rhythmical, and it went very fast, relatively speaking.

 

 My hope is that she enjoys it as much as I did crocheting it!

Finished

Good Morning all!

After so very long I finally finished mending  repairing  reconditioning the ancient table cloth. I am satisfied that it looks as well as it did originally. 

It had over 20 places to repair.  Age, too much starch, iron too hot, sun exposure, and rust stains contributed to the fragility of the piece.  (there are many places that show bleach corrosion)   The rust stains will have to remain if the family desires to preserve the integrity of the piece.  It will be up to them.

It is such a nice depiction of a griffin.  The great-aunt who made it at the turn of the prior  century [1899-1900] must have had her reasons for choosing a griffin for a wedding present.  Back in those days, all that mythology was rampant in the realm. 

So much for historical textiles.

This is my brand new scrubby! In all its synthetic, but perhaps biodegradable, glory. 

My other scrubbies--made of the same material--have all but disappeared with use.



Besides the extreme heat, unseasonal severe weather--thunder, lightning and hail, oh my!--all things are going well.  I have no complaints, and are very grateful to the Lord for all His abundant blessings, and provision.

Knitted Dishrags--Crocheted Hot Pads

Wanted to show you that I'm almost finished making these hot pads.  This red one may not be the last one.  I could make a cream one also.  It depends how long I have.

These are a gift for friend...bridal shower tomorrow...



I cannot find the link for this crocheted one--you know it's like a pouch and then it is joined askew.  I'll link it on another post.

These two are a sort of replica from my little circles from which I'm making a sweater for me.  Their  purpose is to be hot pads for the table.

These two knitted dishcloths are from Homespunliving's blog.  She has both tutorials here and here.  Thank you Deb.

 I used Hobby Lobby's "I Love This Cotton" it is very, very soft and does not split in knitting nor crocheting. Wonderful, and in my opinion, better than "Peaches and Cream"

 Made this "drop peach cake" from Gardenfork He uses a square 9 inch cake pan, but I don't have one of those so I used two 9 inch pie pans--because a 9 inch circle contains less volume than a 9 inch square, but you knew that. 

 I took a little taste from the stainless steel pan...while it was still hot...it is awesome...!

Monday Muggings--New Blogger text format

This Monday's Mug is about quirks.  Well...one particular quirk of mine regarding coffee mugs.  As all people do, I have some favoured mugs.  I reach for the favoured mugs for morning coffee or afternoon tea. 

Some of my mugs are all one color, like today's mug; but, most of them are colored on the outside and white or cream on the inside.  I favour the white or cream inside mugs. 

I discovered this quirk a few years ago.  It seems that I like to see the contents of the mug, and if the mug is dark on the inside--like the coffee or tea, it messes with my process of enjoying the refreshment. 

Yes, I did say it was a quirk, so there!

I suggest that you try it and see if it makes a difference to you.  I'm sure there is some name for this coffee-mug-insides-quirk, probably Disfunctional Imbiving Perception Syndrome or DIPS for the peasants to understand.

These crocheted cuties will be some sort of shawl, for me...woohoo!

I had the better part of several balls of sock yarn, and it was not enough for "anything" so I started crocheting.

I copied a coaster from a set that a friend made for me a long time ago. 

It will be put  together with this full ball of black.  I will see if it looks the same way after I do it, as I have it in my mind. 

Do you like the mug?  I got it from  Cottage Creations many years ago...two kitties hiding by a basket of yarn, cute!

Not too much going on, besides working on the outside of the house.  The temps are lower and so is the humidity...so pleasant.

Gotta go, have dishes and laundry waiting...

Normalish days...have a minute...short note

I really like rainy days, and we have seen many of those this Spring. Everything is GREEN and lush and beautiful, but I have no pictures.

The flowering trees are done flowering--mostly, and there is very little pollen in the air. Actually today there is none, as it is raining a beautiful steady rain.

Enough of the weather report.

Knitted some baby booties for 2c and 5b--pink of course.

Since rainy days are conducive to reading, I have been reading A WHOLE LOT--loooove to read.
These are the complete works of John Wesley. It will take me a while to read all of volumes, but his narratives are very entertaining. I have read most of one volume.

Then, I pulled this one, off the shelf. It is so FULL of historical information. The author, Alfred Edersheim, was a Jewish man who became a born again Christian. Edersheim's perspective is wonderful. (he has some minor things that I don't agree with, but...who does not?)
These men of old--like Wesley and Edersheim--who lived in the 18th and 19th century respectively, loved the Lord, loved the Word of the Lord, and spent much time studying, researching and learning. All of it to our benefit, and even if they did not know it, to the glory of God.
When I received a gift certificate to Michael's for my birthday, I went quickly to purchase yarn (poor me, I did not have enough, sigh...) to make a ripple afghan. I had seen the ripples that Attic24 had made, and was inspired to replicate one. So, a couple of months ago I stood for more than an hour, in front of the multitude of yarns, choosing the 'right' colors.

It is the 'soft ripple' pattern. I enjoy looking at her colorful blog.

Better get busy. I need to make bread, but maybe tomorrow, Lord willing. I will do it.

Finished EZ's blanket...now I see a pinwheel

[by the way...10 more inches of snow in one day...welcome to SPRING!]


Those loose threads being tucked the blanket is finished!


The ugly symbol has dissappeared and it has become a pinwheel. It reminds me of a quilt block.





What a relief...


I finished the edge with an applied i-cord using (but modifying) the instructions from here.

It was fun and fast to make this applied i-cord. It makes the edge look very complete, and since it's for a boy, very appropriate.

The edge is so neat, I keep looking at it, in admiration. Try it on your next edge. Perhaps, on a dishcloth, so you can see quick results. It is the same on both sides.

(nice blue fingers!...the blanket is the right color...sort-of...Oh, no! now you know I'm from the planet Blueto...sigh...!!)

The green cover I made in one day. It is for my kitchen stool. You have to know that we've had this black vinyl kitchen stool in that corner since...for-eh-ver! Its assignment was to give repose to those on the phone, and while cooking or baking, a small respite.

Now every-bo-dy has a cell phone, but everybody who gets or makes a phone call while in the kitchen, goes to sit at the stool...force of habit, to the max! Still have the land line, need a new one--it is acting up.

The green matches the green on the wallpaper, although it does not appear like it in this pic.

The cover is snug enough that it should not come off [it has been put to the test, and passed]
