Recycled, or what was it called?

When our Mothers and Grandmothers had sweaters that got too small, or too old, or out of style, they did not give these sweaters away.

Some sweaters that were ancient, were cut up and used as dusting rags.  [You know that wool is great for dusting.]  Some sweaters were cut up and sewn into children's sweaters or baby soakers.  Other sweaters were raveled--or incorrectly: unraveled [sic.], and the wool was skeined and washed and wound into balls, and used for a new sweater.

What was this process called? Definitely NOT recycling.  NOT re-purposed, NOT redone...My great aunts, grandmothers, and aunts called it:  "I'm going to take this sweater apart and make another one".

Well, I took a sweater apart, wound it into balls...skeined it...and washed it [to get the knitting kink out] and hung it to dry.

This yarn is ready to be skeined, not much left to do...

Skeined on the niddy-noddy

They are ready for their cleansing bath...

Hanging out to dry...

Drying in the beautiful, bright sunshine...72F 40% humidity...awesome!

I'll leave you with this:

"But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap sparingly; and He which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully."  II Corinthians 9:6

In His hands,  ^__^
