Very boring--A Literary Rant..well...whatever!

I am getting very bored with Atlas Shrugged. Have read several chapters and it is the same 'descriptive descriptions described' type of prose. But now it has bad words included in the dialogue. Why?!! Are all secular authors sneaky? Do all of them do this?

The last novel I read was Taylor Caldwell's Captains And The Kings back in the day (approx. 1979) Yeah! that was another suppossed-to-have-been-disguised-truth...oh well.

I DO NOT like novels.

There is so much real stuff to read that I don't like to take time to read dribble--regardless of the 'social impact' it may--allegedly--have...vailed political intrigue...et cetera.

I will put it on the 'back shelf' and pick it up again when I have read all the magnificent things that are out there.

Made pizza

I was watching Nancy Today the other day, and she made pizza.

So, like a good 'reactor to suggestions' I made pizza too--not that she suggested that I make pizza, but like the suggestions that come via the eyes; that's what I meant. Yeah, whatever...

Waddaya think? the yellowish stuff is the pimento juice in the sauce that comes up though the bubbling cheese.

I made three of them. Ate one and froze two for Sunday's Church Dinner. (I'm hoping that my friend will be there. Her boys love my pizza...or used to)

Leftovers for lunch. Pizza and Kombucha--from Whole Foods. I have not made my own yet.

I'm waiting for the temperatures to be warmer, so the Kombucha will do its thing, and I won't kill it.

I know that there are some of you that would like my pizza sauce recipe. Here it is.

In a blender place:

1 t oregano
1 t crushed red peppers
1 t parsley flakes
1 large jar (1/2 cup) of sliced pimentos
1 can of anchovy fillets (drain the oil, and save for later)
1/2 of a medium onion
6-8 cloves of fresh garlic
the juice from a can of diced tomatoes

Blend all these until all ingredients are creamy
Add the solid pieces of the diced tomatoes and blend 3-6 pulses--a very short time.


Place this sauce in a bowl and add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of olive oil (which may include the anchovy oil) and mix with a fork. [if you place the oil in the blender, you sauce will be pink, and will remain pink through the baking--it's up to you]


Do not add salt, the anchovies have enough salt.


{before anybody yells at me for having given them a different recipe: Please remember that I don't EVER measure anything, so my recipes may vary}


This amount of sauce makes about 4 (12") pizzas. Adjust to taste, sometimes I make five pizzas with the same amount of sauce.

My DH is a carpenter as well as all the other genius things that he is. So...we read a LOT and have MANY books, and are always running out of places to put the books. I mean, bookshelves. We looked at garage sales last summer and fall, but did not find any that were strong enough to fill with books.

DH knows that I have a very favourite bookshelf, he secretly got its dimensions and made me two more just like it.





When it gets warmer, we'll paint the new bookshelves to match the old one.
(now we are running out of wall space...good thing we can place chairs in front of the bookshelves)

These are store bought tomatoes, but I placed them on the window sill to 'ripen' as I do those from my garden. It was 81F yesterday and I think the tomatoes loved the added sunshine and natural warmth. This method of 'maturing' gives the tomatoes fuller flavour. You too, can have the full flavour of home grown tomatoes, even if they are rock-hard from the store. Plan ahead and give the tomatoes a few days to enjoy the restful maturing on a sunny window sill. (Please excuse the dark picture)

Having link problems

It seems that all of the blogs that I have as favorites on the right hand column is showing me a 'problem' and shutting down my internet connection. I've sent the report several times. We'll see what happens and how soon.

We received almost 5 inches of snow, yesteday, it is so beautiful. This week should warm up--as the weather guy says--all the way up to 70F. Not ready for hot weather.

Candy's blog is gone

Candy of keeping the home has closed her blog, and moved on to homesteading. Godspeed, Candy!

She had tons of recipes, how to make Kombucha, how to make Buttermilk, how to make sourdough bread, and many, many more interesting things. She was interested in so many diverse things, that it was a blessing to read her blog. Well, maybe she'll be back, when she has settled in her new homestead.
I am sorry that I did not copy the recipes of many of the things she offered. But, if there was one thing I could pick, it would be her homekeeping binder. It helped me organize what I had in may head, and put it in paper. Now, she was not the only organization blogger, but her method was the most efficient for me. I am very grateful for that.

Boy! she had tons of links, that are now gone...I'll probably stumble upon many of them. I don't want to sound pathetic, sorry if I do.

Speaking of making things. I've tried, again, making yogurt. Went to many YouTubes, they all say very similar things. I made one batch with the crock pot method. I burned it. But, I made two cakes using the burnt yogurt as the liquid. Very yummy. I froze the rest in three one-cup-portions, to use later. DH has 'snack day' this Friday (I've told you before, their snack days are like the ancient Roman Banquets) so he will be taking one of them to the feast. It awaits in the freezer.

I am 'cooking' some water in the crock pot so I can take its temperature, and see how hot the "keep warm" setting gets. Right now, after 3 hours, it is 130F It could be that raw goat's milk burns at that temperature. I will try organic cow's milk next. Apparently, I had my temperature too low before--all the other times I made yogurt. Since we keep our home cool (around 62F) I needed something to keep the yogurt warmer. I will keep you informed, and share my successful recipe when I discover it.

Not much more happening, all things are going well, God is still God, He still loves us and provides for us--all of our needs.

So, if someone tells you there is doom on the horizon, remember only God can see the hearts of men, and what they plan to do. And, only God can enable them to carry the plans through, and only God can and will frustrate the plans of the enemy.
Then, girls, be of good cheer, be of good courage.

Hello girlies!

Long time, no see.

Had some sort of 'pestilence' which is almost gone today. I HATE those bioevils! My God and my Rock, my Deliverer has healed me of it.

So here I am catching up on my social doings.

Had some company from far away, how lovely these people are, and a huge blessing.
Did not go to church on two separate Sundays, oh, well.

I have done the absolute minimum in housekeeping chores, it will all be there--waiting for me--in a day or so, as I catch up with all those chores. (The staff went on a cruise to warmer climates--I pay them and indulge them too much--dream on!)

Hi Jules, your words are very kind, I appreciate your friendship. (have not been to the board for weeks)

I did some knitting A Mobious muffler. Got the recipe from Cat Bordhis site. It is a puzzling thing to knit. Then, of course I had to doctor-it-up. As it is, when you knit this muffler, you will have a mobious ring which is half knit and half purl--although it is all KNIT. I did not like that so much--bo-ring, so I decided to do some purling, but I hate purling on a circular needle (who knows why) so I tried knitting backwards--after turning the work around 360 degrees. The knitting backwards--which is like a dyslexic German knitting--went a little slower, but it worked beautifully. It looks like corrugated knitting.

One of my girls refused it politely (she has tons of scarves) so I think the second one will go to my other girl (or girls) DH suggested I make each one, her own muffler. Tell me what colour, and you'll have it by next winter. (shhhh, don't say anything about quilts---what quilts? who said quilt? I don't have any quilts!!..you heard it explode on impact, and I was never here!)

Short update, but cute. (mm, hm!)

Got a new book! Last week, when I was feeling poorly, my DH surprised me with a new book.
I must tell you that I have not read Fiction in over 20 years...Let's see if I can make it short: A couple of weeks ago I was visiting with a friend about certain political issues and the name of this book came up. From what I know about the book, it is controversial (?) and there seem to be two camps of opinions regarding it. One camp says the book is a novel--as it has been claimed by the author since its publishing, and the other camp says it is 'real life' masquerading as a novel, to protect the author and all the personages therein. Since neither of us had read it, we decided we should read it and make our own decision. When I checked our library, it showed 'not on the bookshelf/on order' in all of the branches. There is a waiting list, the longest one being the audio book on CD.
This made me more curious, since this book was published in 1950something. What has brought it up into the light again? Are there other people discussing this book? Wazzup?
So, DH went and surprised me with a brand new book from Borders. He is the sweetest, most thoughtful man!
Ok, so I have read the first chapter, so far...5th grade 'descriptive descriptions' if you know what I mean...we'll see how it develops.
